Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

Prayer Teleconference

The access code is:  883420
Should you get a busy signal when dialing in, please continue to call back until you are able to join the call!
Join Fr. Paul Whittington and fellow St. Katherine Drexel Parish parishioners as we gather on one accord and pray as a faith community.
Please help get the word out so that as many parishioners as possible may join us.
Please invite your family to participate in our prayer as well.  I believe in these difficult times we all need prayer and are looking for God to speak to us in some small way.
As we begin Holy Week this Sunday, let us not forget the great sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf so that we might have eternal life.  In preparation for the prayer service, I ask that you read the scriptures for Palm Sunday found on pages 62-66 of At Home with the Word.”  If you do not have a copy of the book or a Missalette, the Scriptures are:  Isaiah 50: 4-7; Philippians 2: 6-11; and Matthew 26: 14 – 27: 66.

Beginning Saturday, March 14, 2020, all weekend and daily Masses at our parish and throughout the Archdiocese will be suspended until further notice.
This was mandated by Cardinal Cupich out of an abundance of caution due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition, the church building will be closed to all activities, meetings, etc. until further notice.
Please inform your organization members and fellow parishioners.  There are no exceptions!
The Cardinal has asked that churches remain open for private prayer.
Since I cannot monitor the church from my office, the rectory chapel will be available for private prayer, M-F from 9 a.m. until Noon.
My hope is that we will be able to resume the celebration of Mass and all parish activities in the near future.
– Father Paul Whittington

Pastor’s Notes 03/08/2020

  • On Sunday, March 15th, we will celebrate the women of our parish at the 8:00 and 11 a.m. Masses. Sister Anita Baird, DHM, will be the speaker. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, let us thank God for the many women who have made great contributions to our society and church.
  • Please read my letter regarding the liturgical practices that we will follow going forward due to public health concerns amidst the spread of Coronavirus/COVID-19. It is important that we all exercise good hygienic practices while at church and elsewhere. These practices will remain in place until the Archdiocese says it is safe for parishes to resume their customary rituals. Please remember to pray for all who have been affected by the Coronavirus and especially the families who loved ones died due to the disease. I ask your understanding and cooperation during this time. May God keep us all healthy and safe from all danger!

Pastor’s Messages 12/30/2018

Here we are about to begin a new year! So many things have happened in the parish and in our families, some good and some not so good, some of which we would rather forget. But God is still on the throne! Those aspects of our lives that were not so good in 2018, we leave behind and move forward into 2019.

Today, as we come together as a parish family under one roof, I thank God for the blessings that He has given us. The “Renew My Church” initiative continues as we move into the final phase: evangelization. Each of us is being called to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. If the Church is to be relevant in our day and time we need to be about taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ seriously. I will be speaking more about this in the coming months.

I pray that each of you will have a blessed and prosperous New Year! Let us keep one another in prayer. May God bless you!

Join us for our Annual

Kwanzaa Celebration

Immediately Following 12/30 Mass

  • Please be mindful of the Christmas Mass schedule that is found in today’s Parish Bulletin! The times for Masses for the next two weeks are located on the schedule. Please invite your family and friends to join us in celebrating Christmas and the various feasts that follow.
  • Next weekend, December 30th, we will come together permanently under one roof. After months of prayer, fellowship, and planning, St. Katharine Drexel parishioners will now worship together. I recognize the anger, disappointment, sadness and other emotions that are present among some, but I am also aware of the hope and even the joy that some people exude at the thought of what God is about to do for us as a new faith community. We, the People of God, are the Church! May God bless us one and all! Let the Church say, Amen!
  • ALL families will receive a special blessing as we gather for the Unification Mass at the St. Ailbe worship-site at 10:00 a.m. on the Feast of the Holy Family, December 30th. Families are strongly encouraged to worship together on that day.

Pastor’s Message 12/02/2018

  • There will be a second collection next weekend, December 8-9, at all Masses to support the Religious Retirement Fund. This annual collection helps to support the many consecrated women and men who taught in our schools, worked in hospitals and parishes all for a meager wage. As fewer women and men are entering religious life and because of a lack of able-bodied professed members to support them, their finances are now in jeopardy. Your financial assistance helps to support these women and men who have given their lives to the Church. Thanks in advance for your generosity!
